Patronals in Sant Miquel, fair and festivals
September
The main festival of Llíria dates back to the year 1326, when King James II founded the monastery of San Miguel. During the second fortnight of September, the streets of Llíria are filled with celebration. Among the most significant events is “La Baixà”, which is celebrated on September 28, with the descent of the patron's image from the monastery to the Plaça Major; the “Concert de Bandes”, the only event in the year that brings together the Primitive Band and the Musical Union, and the “Dia de Sant Miquel”, patron saint's day, September 29. The amusement fair is the most important in the Camp de Túria region and highlights the presence of the tradition of “gaiatos” or lirian canes, sweets and artisanal nougats. Furthermore, during these days, the path up to the monastery is filled with pilgrims, artisans and visitors who take the opportunity to visit the image of the Archangel in the church.
